At the time of writing, Elon Musk recently surpassed Jeff Bezos to become the richest person in the world, with a net worth in the hundreds of billions of dollars.
Growing up in America, you soak in a narrative that says that the folks who have the most money probably got it by being really hard working, and industrious, and like, probably really smart.
10. Baby care
We were all left scratching our heads when Elon posted this picture with his baby son alongside the caption “Das baby kann noch keinen löffel benutzen,” which is German for “the baby cannot use a spoon yet.” What is being implied here? Why is he speaking German all the sudden? It’s simultaneously cute and foreboding.

9. Endorsing Ye
When Kanye West announced that he would be running for President in 2020, most of us just laughed and took it to be a meme. Not the richest man in the world, apparently. He came out with full-throated support on Twitter, though it’s hard to say if he was serious or not.
You have my full support!

8. The name thing
Elon Musk and his partner Grimes infamously gave their son a name so bizarre, there was question as to whether it was even allowed under California law. Apparently, it’s pronounced “Ex-ash-ay-twelve.” I’m sure that kid is gonna have a super normal and not at all troubled life.

7. Legalize comedy
A critique on woke culture? A weird joke? Two words chosen out of a hat? Who knows. Fight the good fight, Elon.

6. The panic
Obviously nobody thinks panic is a good or useful thing. Even when everything is deadly serious and highly dangerous, panic helps nothing. But this tweet from early 2020 is one of a long line of sentiments from Musk apparently endorsing the idea that pandemics shouldn’t be super duper worried about. I’m gonna go ahead and say bad take.
The coronavirus panic is dumb

5. The pyramids
An instance in which he was almost definitely joking, but still feels kinda irresponsible to spread when you’re arguably the most prominent inventor in an increasingly conspiracy-prone world.
I follow your work with a lot of admiration. I invite you & Space X to explore the writings about how the pyramids were built and also to check out the tombs of the pyramid builders. Mr. Musk, we are waiting for you 🚀. @elonmusk https://t.co/Xlr7EoPXX4

Once again, Elon downplays the seriousness of a pandemic by calling to just open everything up on the interest of “freedom.”
How incredibly irresponsible of you…. and you think you are a person of science and technology… you're a disgrace…. and now I have to get rid of my TESLAs… oh well…oh… and you clearly are not very smart! #BoycottTesla

3. Soul brother
Can’t really hear this one without picturing that meme of him holding a joint on Joe Rogan.
You don’t have a soul, you are a soul
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 22, 2020
2. Material possessions
Nearly a year later and Musk has in fact sold several houses, though he’s a very long way from having no possessions, and getting richer by the day.
I am selling almost all physical possessions. Will own no house.
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) May 1, 2020
Many interpret this as Musk joining the faction of the culture war who seem to think that calling someone by their preferred pronoun is some sort of unbearable oppression instead of, yanno, basic manners. Or maybe he just…dislikes that portion of the English language? We can’t know. There’s just no way to know.

It’s not at all frightening that this is one of the post powerful humans on earth…right?
